So my back...... 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Greetings, anyone have any insight into why the muscles in my lower back are troubling me after moderate rides on flat terrain? I have tried to sit more upright but that results in an immediate loss of momentum. Now the way I see it, I need to either suspend a cinder block from a fishing rod out front so that I may sit back without fear of a violent rearward back flip and even more brain damage or one of you insightful experts can say something so clever as to save me a trip to the tackle outlet

Many thanks

Andrew

At the same time as you sit up, push your hips forward, which should keep your momentum forward. This should lead to you having slightly better alignment. I found an exaggerated version of this a useful way of relieving pressure on longer rides as well, for what it is worth.

Hmmm, I'll try that. Would an adjustment to my saddle help at all?

You could try tilt the saddle a little more back, which will force you to sit a little more back and should be a little more comfortable. I did that a while back and found that for me it was much better.

Thanks Brent, I will experiment some this weekend!
